Gone Girl (2014)

Gone girl is the story of Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) and the disappearance of his wife Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike).

At the beginning of Gone Girl we are shown what a happy couple Mr. and Mrs. Dunne are with a typical love story montage of sorts. However, things are not what they seem when Mr. Dunne arrives back from The Bar, literally the name of the bar he owns, to discover that his wife has vanished and all the evidence for her disappearance points directly at him.

This is definitely one of my favorite movies of the year, and easily one of Rosamund Pikes’ greatest performances. Though it was a bit hard to believe that Ben murdered his wife, as they spent the first hour of a two and a half hour movie trying to convince us that he did. It’s still a phenomenal movie. I am a bit partial to Rosamund Pike though, she is smoking hot to say the least. But come on the scene where she kills NPH.

I think she topped Jake Gyllenhaals’ sociopath/ psychopathic performance in nightcrawler, which I though was a great performance from Gyllenhaal because I have never seen Gyllenhaal play that sort of character before. You could argue maybe Zodiac, but I don’t think that comes close to the performances we got from both Pike and Gyllenhaal this year.

Anyway, great movie that’s why I have given it five hammers to the face out of five hammers to the face.
